What to Expect During Your Newborn Session

What to Expect During Your Newborn Session

Bringing a newborn in for their first photos is a small milestone in itself — and a little planning goes a long way toward making the session calm, unhurried, and genuinely enjoyable for everyone.

When to book

The sweet spot for a classic newborn session is the first 5 to 14 days after birth. Babies this young are naturally sleepier and more flexible, which makes the soft, curled poses possible. That said, every baby is different — a healthy, happy baby of any age still makes for beautiful photos, just in a different style.

What to bring

  • A couple of outfit or wrap options for baby, if you have preferences
  • An extra outfit for yourself in case of spit-up or spills
  • Any meaningful heirlooms — a blanket, a hat knitted by grandma, a hospital bracelet
  • A well-fed, freshly changed baby (feeding right before we start helps everyone settle in)

What the session feels like

There's no rushing here. Sessions are unhurried on purpose, with plenty of breaks for feeding, soothing, and diaper changes. The studio is kept warm and quiet, and we work at your baby's pace — not the clock's.

The goal isn't a perfect pose. It's a photograph that still feels like them years from now.

After the session

You'll receive a curated gallery of retouched digital images, ready to print, share, or turn into an album. Many families pair their newborn session with the Baby Plan, which also includes maternity, sitter, and first birthday sessions — one continuous story of your baby's first year.
